The Department of State Services has allegedly arrested and detained Reverend Beziel, a cleric of the Global Methodist Church, sparking concern among worshippers.
Church members and supporters are demanding answers over the reported detention, while details about the circumstances surrounding the arrest remain unclear.
Security Operatives Arrest Beziel at Taraba Residence
Security operatives reportedly picked up Beziel at his Taraba residence around 2 a.m. on February 22, 2026.
The development has reportedly led to growing outrage following the continued detention of the cleric.
Church member Ruhania Idris raised alarm over the cleric’s continued detention, saying efforts to secure his freedom have failed.
DSS operatives took our Methodist pastor, Reverend Beziel, from his home in the dead of night without prior notice or explanation.
“Since then, authorities have held him for weeks without bringing any clear charges against him,” Idris said.
He further claimed that people allegedly paid ₦15 million to facilitate the pastor’s release, but the effort has produced no results.
“Someone told us that paying ₦15 million would secure his freedom, but even after we raised and paid the money, he still remains in detention.
This has left us confused, distressed and feeling completely helpless,” he added.
Beziel Transferred to Jalingo Correctional Facility
According to him, authorities have now transferred the cleric to a correctional facility in Jalingo.
The state capital, deepening concerns about due process.
“He is no longer even in DSS custody.
Authorities moved him to the Jalingo correctional centre, yet no one has told us what offence he committed.
We are in the dark,” Idris said
Taraba Government Distances Itself From Beziel Case
The Secretary to the State Government allegedly said he knew no one who could help secure the pastor’s release.
Idris said the statement deepened their fears that justice might never be served in this matter.
