The death of former Nigerian President Muhammadu Buhari has provoked strong emotions nationwide as Sunday Igboho claimed that Buhari personally ordered the Department of State Services (DSS) to raid his residence at midnight on July 4, 2021.

Among the most vocal reactions is that of Sunday Adeniyi Adeyemo, popularly known as Sunday Igboho, a prominent Yoruba nation agitator.

In a viral video, Igboho recalled a chilling encounter with Buhari’s regime that nearly cost him his life.

Midnight Raid: Igboho’s Life Threatened by DSS

The operation, he alleged, was meant to eliminate him.

“I thank God for my life today, see life!” Igboho declared in the video.

“The man that sent DSS to come and kill me in the middle of the night on July 4th, 2021, has died today.”

He accused Buhari of colluding with some Yoruba indigenes to orchestrate the attack.

“The man that ganged up with some stupid Yoruba people came to my house to take my life but God said no,” he said defiantly.

    Buhari’s Death: A Turning Point?

Buhari’s death on Sunday in a London clinic after a brief illness has stirred mixed feelings.

While many mourn the former president, Igboho’s comments underscore the bitterness felt by some Nigerians who suffered under his rule.

The former leader’s remains are expected to arrive in Nigeria for burial in Daura, Katsina State, on Monday.

The Legacy of Fear and Repression

Igboho’s allegations highlight a darker side of Buhari’s presidency.

The midnight DSS raid on a prominent activist’s home symbolizes the administration’s harsh tactics against dissenters.

Critics argue that Buhari’s government often used state security agencies to intimidate and silence opposition.

Sunday Igboho’s survival is seen by supporters as a sign of resilience against an oppressive regime of the former President.

    Political Collusion and Betrayal

Igboho’s claim that Buhari colluded with some Yoruba indigenes adds a controversial ethnic dimension to the narrative.

It suggests internal betrayal within the Yoruba community, complicating the ethnic politics that have long shaped Nigeria.

This accusation fuels debates about loyalty, power struggles, and the manipulation of ethnic identities for political ends.

    National Mourning Amid Divisions

President Bola Tinubu declared seven days of national mourning to honour Buhari.

“The authorities ordered flags to fly at half-mast and summoned an emergency Federal Executive Council meeting.”

Tinubu described Buhari as a patriot, soldier, and statesman who fought corruption and served Nigeria with dedication.

Yet, the nation remains divided over Buhari’s legacy.

    Mixed Public Sentiments

While some Nigerians praise Buhari’s anti-corruption stance and discipline, others condemn his administration for worsening insecurity, economic hardship, and human rights abuses.

Sunday Igboho fiery remarks represent a faction that refuses to mourn Buhari, viewing his death as the end of a repressive era.

    The Challenge Ahead for Nigeria

Buhari’s passing leaves a complex legacy. The government faces the task of uniting a fractured nation while addressing the grievances of those like Igboho.

The controversy surrounding Buhari’s reign and death reveals deep-seated issues in Nigeria’s political landscape that demand urgent attention.

Sunday Igboho’s controversial reaction to Muhammadu Buhari’s death exposes the allegations of political repression, ethnic collusion, and the polarized legacy Buhari leaves behind.

The piece challenges readers to confront Nigeria’s unresolved political and ethnic conflicts amid national mourning.
