Resilience Amid Political Upheaval
The visit comes at a turbulent time for the NNPP, which has been rocked by Governor Yusuf’s high-profile defection.
According to Kwankwaso, the turnout from Nasarawa LGA “underscored the resilience of the Kwankwasiyya movement despite recent political developments.”
“In our discussions, I reaffirmed my profound appreciation for their unwavering courage and determination,” he wrote.
Kwankwaso emphasized that the supporters’ loyalty was motivated not by personal gain, but by a shared vision for the collective good.
“Despite the recent trials that have tested the faith and fortitude of many.
They have chosen to stand firmly with us, not for personal gain, but for the collective progress and wellbeing of our people,” he stated.
He added that the movement remained focused on its core values.
“Together, we remain resolute in upholding and advancing the timeless ideals of Kwankwasiyya.”
Defection Fallout: Loyalty and Betrayal
Governor Yusuf’s move to the APC, widely seen as a political earthquake in Kano, has triggered intense reactions.
Kwankwaso openly expressed his disappointment, labeling the day of Yusuf’s defection as “World Betrayal Day.”
Kwankwaso reassured supporters that their loyalty is a source of renewed strength.
“Thank you once again for your loyalty and solidarity.
The journey continues, and God’s grace and the people’s will assure victory,” he said.
Implications for Kano Politics
Political analysts note that the NNPP faces a critical juncture.
Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf’s shock defection to the APC has dramatically shifted Kano’s power balance, leaving NNPP reeling.
It raises tough questions about the future of Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso’s Kwankwasiyya movement, once dominant in the state.
As 2027 elections loom, Yusuf’s move tests loyalties and could redefine opposition politics in northern Nigeria.
