Vivacious Development Initiative (VIDI) strongly condemns, in the clearest possible terms, the brutal sexual assaults perpetrated against women in Ozoro, Delta State.
These acts are criminal, violent, and utterly unacceptable.
That this incident occurred right on the heels of International Women’s Day makes it a national disgrace.
Women’s Day Joy Shattered by Ozoro Horror
While the nation and global community celebrated women’s achievements and rights on International Women’s Day, Ozoro women faced horror.
Harassers targeted them in broad daylight. Public spaces turned into zones of violation. The stark irony exposed deep cultural contradictions.
Violent men stripped women naked amid festival chaos, drawing cheers from crowds.
Videos Expose Ozoro Barbarism as Cops Watch Passively
They groped, beat, and gang-raped victims without mercy.
Videos captured the dehumanization for online sharing. Authorities watched passively as traditions masked barbarism.
Vidi condems this “Fertility Festival” as crime, not culture, demanding immediate arrests.
He urges Delta State Governor to dethrone perpetrators and publish their names.
Shame must warn future evildoers through national newspapers. Justice demands fire, not kid gloves.
Women now fear Ozoro streets during the multi-day event, ordered indoors by organizers.
Gang rapists prowl freely, risking lives of any female spotted outside. This evil persists unchecked.
Nigeria must end it to honor true women’s rights.
VIDI firmly rejects any attempt to frame these acts as cultural or communal practices.
No tradition should permit the violation of women’s bodies. Such narratives only serve to normalise violence and shield perpetrators from accountability.
Beyond the immediate victims, the consequences of this incident are far-reaching.
Children who witness or are exposed to such violence experience trauma, fear, and insecurity.
This undermines healthy childhood development, reinforces harmful social norms, and threatens the safety and stability of communities.
A society that fails to protect women ultimately endangers its next generation.
VAPP Act Leads Nigeria’s War on Sexual Violence
It bans harassment, assault, and rape explicitly. Criminal Code Act backs it with harsh penalties nationwide.
The Child Rights Act protects minors from exploitation and harm. Courts enforce these statutes without exception, even in cultural festivals.
Perpetrators face imprisonment, fines, and public shame. No tradition excuses violating human dignity.
Ozoro Thugs’ Rites No Match for VAPP Felonies
Ozoro festival thugs invoke “fertility rites” to justify crimes, but laws disagree. VAPP Act covers stripping, groping, and gang rape as felonies.
Police must arrest and prosecute swiftly. Governors hold power to dethrone enablers.
Global eyes watch Nigeria honor women’s rights or fail. Enforce VAPP, Criminal Code, and Child Rights Acts now.
Publish names in newspapers for deterrence. Turn legal words into actions—end the violence decisively.
While initial arrests have been reported, VIDI emphasises that justice must be comprehensive, transparent, and far-reaching.
Every perpetrator, as well as any individual who enabled or failed to prevent these acts, must be held accountable under the law.
VIDI urges Delta State Government to lead the charge against Ozoro festival atrocities.
Arrest every perpetrator, from rapists to cheering enablers. Prosecute under VAPP Act without delay. Deliver swift justice to restore public trust.
Raid Ozoro Now: Seize Videos, Quiz Tradition Defenders
Law enforcement agencies must raid Ozoro now, seizing videos as evidence. Interrogate community leaders who defend this “tradition” as crime abettors.
Deploy patrols during festivals to protect women. No more kid-glove tolerance.
Community elders and traditional rulers face a choice: dethrone evildoers or share blame.
Prevent future horrors with strict measures, curfews for women indoors, zero-tolerance policing.
VIDI demands accountability to honor victims and deter copycats.
Delta Government, act decisively; history judges silence as complicity. Justice starts today.
Boost Enforcement, Sensitize Communities, Shield Women Everywhere
This must include strengthened enforcement, community sensitisation, and protection mechanisms for women and girls in both public and private spaces.
It must be clearly stated that women do not need to stay indoors to be safe.
The responsibility lies with perpetrators and with systems that fail to enforce the law.
VIDI stands in solidarity with the victims and all survivors of sexual and gender-based violence.
The safety, dignity, and rights of women and girls are non-negotiable.
