The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command has vehemently denied reports that it sealed off the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) National Secretariat in Wuse Zone 5, Abuja, June 30, 2025.

The denial comes amid swirling rumors that police and other security operatives blocked access to the secretariat. June 30.

Disrupting the party’s 100th National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting and escalating internal party conflicts.

Viral Reports Spark Controversy and Public Outcry

Social media and news outlets were abuzz on Monday with claims that security forces had barricaded the PDP Secretariat, preventing party officials and members from entering.

The alleged police action was interpreted by many as a deliberate attempt to stifle the opposition’s activities and deepen the party’s leadership crisis.

These reports intensified the already fraught atmosphere within Nigeria’s main opposition party in the PDP National Secretariat security controversy.

Raising questions about the federal government’s role in the internal PDP power struggle.

Police Issue Official Statement: “False And Misleading”

In response, the FCT Police Command issued a statement signed by Public Relations Officer Josephine Adeh, categorically rejecting the allegations.

The statement described the circulating reports of the PDP National Secretariat security controversy as “false and misleading,” urging the public and media to disregard them.

“The FCT Police Command is aware of the news making rounds alleging that Police sealed off the PDP Secretariat in Wuse Zone 5, Abuja,” the statement read.

“The Command wishes to categorically state that this information is false, misleading, and does not reflect the true situation on ground.”

Police Deployed Solely to Maintain Law and Order

Adeh clarified that the police presence at the secretariat was strictly for maintaining public order and ensuring safety, in line with constitutional duties.

She emphasized that the Secretariat was never sealed off by the police at any time.

“At no time was the Secretariat sealed off by the Police,” Adeh reiterated.

The deployment was a routine security measure amid reports of planned parallel meetings by rival factions within the PDP.

Media Censured for Spreading Unverified Information

The police spokesperson also issued a stern warning to journalists and media houses to verify information before publication.

Especially on sensitive security issues such as the PDP National Secretariat security controversy.

“The Commissioner of Police, FCT, urges media outlets to verify information through the office of the Command police public relations officer before disseminating,” Adeh stated.

This caution highlights ongoing concerns about misinformation and the media’s role in fueling political tensions through unchecked reporting.

Political Context: A Party in Turmoil

The PDP has been embroiled in a bitter leadership crisis, with factions disputing the legitimacy of the Acting National Chairman’s decisions.

The planned 100th NEC meeting was expected to be a pivotal moment in resolving or deepening these divisions.

The alleged police blockade, whether real or imagined, became a symbol of the federal government’s perceived interference in opposition politics, further polarizing the political landscape.

Public Skepticism and calls for Transparency

Despite the police denial, many Nigerians remain skeptical.

The opposition has accused the ruling party and security agencies of undermining democratic processes by intimidating political opponents.

Some critics argue that the police’s presence, no matter how justified, inevitably influences political outcomes.

In a country where security forces have historically served as tools for political repression and power struggles, their actions continue to reflect this troubling legacy.

The Bigger Picture: Security Forces and Political Neutrality

This incident raises urgent questions about the neutrality of Nigeria’s security apparatus.

The public demands assurances that police and other agencies will uphold the rule of law without bias, especially during politically sensitive periods.

The FCT Police Command’s denial may calm nerves temporarily, but the underlying mistrust between political actors and security forces persists.

The police insist their deployment was to maintain order, warning media against spreading false information.

As Nigeria’s main opposition party grapples with leadership turmoil, the role of security agencies remains under scrutiny.

Wahalaupdate will continue monitoring developments in this politically charged environment.
