On June 3, 2025, operatives of the Bauchi State Police Command successfully prevented a mob from taking the law into their own hands against a 37-year-old man accused of repeatedly sexually assaulting his 15-year-old stepdaughter
According to a report by Leadership News, the suspect, Mr. Wisdom Benoie, was arrested following credible intelligence and swift police action.
The operation was led by CSP Kim Abert and involved officers from Operation Restore Peace (ORP).
In a press release on Monday, Police Public Relations Officer Ahmed Wakil explained that the incident came to light after the victim’s father reported the abuse to the ORP unit in Yalwan Tsakani Bauchi.
“On May 31, 2025, Wisdom Benoie, a 37-year-old man from Yalwan Tsakani, was confronted by local youths who suspected him of secretly molesting his stepdaughter,” Wakil said.
Preliminary investigations revealed that Benoie is married to the victim’s mother, making him the teenager’s stepfather.
It was alleged that he sexually assaulted the victim multiple times while her mother was asleep, entering her room without her consent.
The victim, who had suffered in silence, eventually confided in neighbours.
This led to a coordinated effort that caught the suspect in the act, prompting the attempted mob action that the police successfully stopped.
During interrogation, Benoie reportedly confessed to the crimes.
The victim has been taken to a medical facility for examination and care.
Commissioner of Police, Bauchi State, CP Sani-Omolori Aliyu, has ordered that the case be transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department for a discreet and thorough investigation.
Following this, the suspect will be charged to court for prosecution.
The police have assured the public of their commitment to justice and protection of vulnerable victims.
