The Akwa Ibom State Representative on the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) Governing Board, Apostle Abasiandikan Nkono, has charged the first set of graduates of the Commission’s Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) Autogas Conversion Training to see themselves as “solution providers” and key players in Nigeria’s evolving energy sector.
Apostle Nkono gave the charge on Wednesday in Uyo while addressing journalists shortly after the closing ceremony of the intensive six-week training, held at the Dakkada Skills Acquisition Centre, Ikot Ada Idem, Ibiono Ibom Local Government Area.
Describing the graduation of the 400 youths from across the nine mandate states as a historic step, the NDDC Board member stated that the initiative was deliberate proof of the Commission’s commitment to equipping Niger Deltans with globally relevant skills.
“This training was not only about collecting a certificate; it was about creating solutions to our energy needs. Just as our Managing Director, Chief Samuel Ogbuku, pointed out, they have been equipped to become self-reliant and contribute to the economy of the region and nation. I congratulate and wish them well,” he asserted.
Nkono continued: “The problems of today, like the need for cheaper, cleaner energy, are the business opportunities explored by the NDDC for Niger Deltans. We represent transformative leadership which adds value to our people.”
The Commissioner also enjoined the graduands to make judicious use of the toolkits and starter packs offered.
“Those toolkits they are going home with are not for sale. I urge them not to mortgage their future for quick gains.”
The event had representatives from the PI-CNG, Akwa Ibom State Government, NELFUND, and the management of the Dakkada Skills Acquisition Centre in attendance.
