US President Donald Trump has warned that Republicans must win the 2026 congressional midterm elections or risk renewed impeachment efforts by Democrats.

According to reports, Trump made the remarks on Tuesday while addressing Republican lawmakers at a party retreat in Washington.

“You gotta win the midterms ’cause if we don’t win the midterms, it’s just gonna be, I mean, they’ll find a reason to impeach me,” Trump said. “I’ll get impeached.”

President Warns Party: Midterm Losses Derail Agenda

The president issued a stark warning to his party, emphasizing that relinquishing control of Congress in the upcoming midterms could derail his entire legislative agenda.

Without a supportive majority, key priorities like infrastructure reforms and economic stimulus packages would face immediate gridlock in both chambers.

This loss of power would not only halt progress but also leave his administration vulnerable to aggressive oversight from opposition-led committees.

Investigations Risk Paralyzing Governance, Eroding Confidence

Investigations into past policies and current operations could intensify, potentially paralyzing governance and eroding public confidence ahead of future elections.

Urging lawmakers to put aside internal disagreements and focus on winning elections.

Republicans cling to a razor-thin majority in the United States House of Representatives, a fragile hold that shapes every major decision on Capitol Hill.

Slim Majority Cripples Speaker Johnson’s Agenda Control

This slim edge, often just a handful of votes, severely restricts the authority of Speaker Mike Johnson in steering the legislative agenda.

Trump highlighted how this vulnerability forces constant negotiations with a fractious GOP caucus and occasional bipartisan deals to pass even routine measures.

Losing even a few seats in the 2026 midterms could flip control entirely, handing Democrats the gavel and amplifying probes into the administration.

“You can’t be tough when you have a majority of three,” he said.

Trump Urges GOP: Pitch Gender Policies as Parental Safeguards

Trump urged Republicans to aggressively pitch core party policies on gender issues, framing them as safeguards for parental rights and traditional values amid cultural debates.

He stressed promoting healthcare reforms, like expanding market-driven options, to counter rising medical costs squeezing family budgets nationwide.

On election integrity, Trump demanded members highlight voting security measures to rebuild trust in a polarized electorate wary of fraud claims.

Despite voters’ top worries over inflation and living expenses, he insisted tying these cultural stands to everyday economic relief would rally support for the midterms.

While acknowledging that incumbent presidents often lose seats in midterm elections.

“They say that when you win the presidency, you lose the midterms,” he said. “I wish you could explain to me what the hell’s going on with the mind of the public.”

He made only a brief reference to inflation, blaming Democrats for the problem, and urged Republicans to campaign on gains in the US stock market.

Trump Downplays Jan. 6 Capitol Attack by Supporters

Trump also downplayed the January 6, 2021, attack on the US Capitol by his supporters.

As Democrats marked the fifth anniversary of the riot and accused Republicans of attempting to “whitewash” history.

The retreat was held at the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts.

Which Trump claimed had recently been renamed to include his name following changes to its board.

In Hour-Long Unscripted Speech, Trump Repeats Disputed Claims, Including No Homicides in Washington for Months.

He predicted Republicans would deliver an “epic midterm victory.”

Trump Blasts Disloyal GOP Holdouts for Refusing Party Line on Critical Votes, Vents Deep Frustration.

He called out members unwilling to fall in line, warning their stubbornness risks squandering the slim House majority.

Trump Pushes GOP Flexibility on Obamacare Subsidies

To unify conservatives, Trump pushed for flexibility on divisive issues like healthcare subsidies tied to Obamacare expansions.

He even nodded toward the Hyde Amendment, which bars federal funding for abortions.

Suggesting pragmatic tweaks to broaden appeal without core betrayals.

“All of these issues are very important issues, but you can own healthcare,” he told lawmakers. “Figure it out.”

Voters contest every House seat and one-third of Senate seats in November 2026.

No sitting US president has avoided losing House seats in the midterms since George W. Bush in 2006.

Trump was impeached twice during his first term but was acquitted by the Senate on both occasions.

“I got impeached twice on nothing,” he said.
