Governor Ademola Adeleke of Osun State has firmly rejected recent calls for the declaration of a state of emergency in Osun State.
He described these calls, made by unnamed civil society groups, as the latest desperate ploy by former Governor Gboyega Oyetola, Bola Oyebamiji, and their allies within the All Progressives Congress (APC)
Who, according to him, are frustrated by their inability to destabilize the state and seize power after repeated electoral failures.
Adeleke Slams APC’s Emergency Ploy as Power Grab
In a statement issued on Saturday by his spokesperson, Mallam Olawale Rasheed, Governor Adeleke characterized the demand for a state of emergency as a continuation of the APC leadership’s long-standing strategy to exploit instability in their quest for power.
The governor argued that this tactic has continuously failed, as the people of Osun have repeatedly shown their support for democratic governance and rejected attempts at backdoor power grabs.
“We reiterate well-known facts in the public domain that the APC is the main source of disturbance in the state.
Paralysing local government, mismanaging LG funds, and illegally deploying police.
Making Mr. Oyetola and his cohorts the most hated entities in Osun political space,” the statement declared.
Adeleke Exposes APC’s Local Fund Seizure, Mismanagement Pattern
According to Governor Adeleke, the APC’s pattern of seizing local government funds, mismanaging resources.
And forcefully occupying council offices was not only illegal but also deliberately calculated to provoke violence and conflict.
He asserted that this was a deliberate strategy to create chaos and then blame the Adeleke-led administration.
Painting themselves as the solution to a crisis they helped orchestrate.
Despite the challenges posed by these alleged provocations, Adeleke stated that his administration has succeeded in maintaining peace and stability in Osun State.
He described the recent call for a state of emergency as a clear act of frustration and desperation.
A last resort for those who have failed to destabilize the state through other means.
“Osun APC has failed in its evil bid to destabilize and create mayhem in Osun State.
Hence their resort to an open call for emergency declaration, for which there is no basis or justification,” he emphasized.
Adeleke Challenges Accusations, Fires Back with Key Questions
The governor’s statement challenged the logic of the accusations being leveled at him and his administration, raising pointed questions.
“How can the APC turn around to accuse Governor Adeleke of creating a crisis in Osun when the whole world knows that it was Mr. Oyetola and his cohorts that masterminded the current instability at Osun local government level?
How can any sane person blame Governor Adeleke when it was the APC’s illegal chairmen who criminally hijacked the local government and refused to quit office after the expiration of their self-awarded tenure?”
He further questioned the morality of blaming his government for the actions of those seeking tenure elongation through unlawful means and for the illegal seizure of Osun’s local government funds at the UBA, in direct breach of financial laws.
Adeleke: We Paid LG Workers Abandoned by APC Chairmen
Governor Adeleke pointed out that his administration stepped in to pay local government workers abandoned by unlawful APC chairmen.
Demonstrating his commitment to the welfare of the people of Osun.
The Osun APC has emerged as a truly anti-people and anti-humanity political party,” the statement asserted.
He warned that Osun State has moved beyond the era of brute force and that no individual or group would be allowed to disturb the peace.
“Anybody found creating public mayhem will face the full wrath of the law,” Adeleke warned.
Emphasizing that law enforcement agencies were on alert to prevent any further attempts to instigate unrest.
While also calling on the Inspector General of Police to take note of recent trends and deploy officers as needed.
Adeleke Urges Tinubu: Rein In Oyetola’s Reputation-Damaging Moves
The governor also appealed to the President to call Mr. Oyetola to order.
Warning that the minister’s actions were tarnishing the reputation of the Presidency.
“Mr. Oyetola and his team should allow Osun to breathe,” he insisted.
In conclusion, Governor Adeleke reaffirmed his faith in the democratic process, stating.
“Those seeking power should face the electorates; voters will decide.
The Political power is secured through the people, no backdoor access will work.
Osun people will not bow or surrender to impunity and an unconstitutional agenda.”
His remarks underscored a commitment to upholding democracy.
The rule of law, and the will of the people in the face of ongoing political tension.
