The commitment of Governor Umo Eno’s administration to women’s inclusiveness and economic empowerment took center stage on Monday during the state government’s ‘Women Arise’ sensitization tour in Eket Local Government Area.
Speaking at the event, held at Eket City Hall, the Akwa Ibom State Representative on the Governing Board of the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC), Apostle Abasiandikan Nkono, commended Governor Eno for his deliberate policies aimed at improving the lives of women in the state.
Apostle Nkono described the Governor’s initiatives as evidence of his dedication to ensuring that women become self-reliant and economically productive.
“The Governor has shown, through action, that he believes in the capacity of our women,” Apostle Nkono said. “His support for women’s inclusiveness is a reality we are witnessing.”
The NDDC Commissioner issued a strong assurance of unwavering loyalty from Eket women, declaring that the women, who played a decisive role in the 2023 elections, remain totally united behind Governor Umo Eno and are prepared to replicate, and even surpass, their previous efforts in the 2027 general elections.
“It is now an established fact that our dear Governor, come 2027, does not have any challenge as far as voting and elections are concerned. I want to use this opportunity to reaffirm that as far as Eket women are concerned, I know them and can vouch for them. Once they declare for you, they will stand with you and deliver votes en bloc.”
Beyond the pledge of political support, Apostle Nkono also emphasized the critical importance of civic responsibility by calling on the women to take the sensitization campaign beyond the event hall and into their various communities.
The NDDC State Representative also urged them to continue the aggressive sensitization of fellow women on the need to obtain, guard, and protect their Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs).
The event also featured remarks from the Coordinator, Office of the First Lady, Lady Helen Eno-Obareki; Deputy Governor, Senator Akon Eyakenyi; the Chairman of Eket Local Government Council, Hon. Akaninyene Tommey; Rt. Hon. Okpolupm Etteh, member representing Eket Federal Constituency; Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Mkpisong Frank Archibong; Commissioner for Sports, Elder Paul Bassey; House of Assembly member, Dr. Nsidibe Akata; APC Woman Leader, Mrs. Comfort Ebong, among others.
The high point of the event was the official endorsement of President Bola Tinubu, Senate President Godswill Akpabio and Governor Eno for a second term.
