The Akwa Ibom State Government has claimed on June 2, 2025 that Mrs. Jane Eddidiong Ufot, Senior Special Adviser to Governor Umo Eno, was influenced by “false prophets” to share a viral video accusing her father of involvement in her mother’s death.
According to report, the government described the video as an emotional outburst from a grieving daughter misled by others on June 2.
Commissioner for Information Aniekan Umanah said the video reflected Jane’s pain and was not a direct accusation against the governor.
He condemned those spreading the video for using the family’s private tragedy for political attacks.
Governor Umo Eno confirmed the video was recorded shortly after his wife’s death in 2024 and called its resurfacing a political ploy.
He urged the public to respect his family’s privacy and focus on the state’s development under his leadership.
The Akwa Ibom State Government has addressed the controversy surrounding a viral video of Mrs. Jane Eddidiong Ufot, Senior Special Adviser to Governor Umo Eno on Health, Safety, and Environment, in which she emotionally implicated her father in connection with the death of her mother, the late First Lady, Pastor Patience Eno.
The government insists that Jane was manipulated by “false prophets” and misled into making the statements during a moment of deep grief and emotional distress.
In an official statement released by the Commissioner for Information, Rt. Hon. Aniekan Umanah, the government described the video as a “moment of emotional outpouring” from a grieving daughter who was influenced by misleading individuals to believe that political factors contributed to her mother’s death.
Umanah emphasized that the video did not contain any direct accusation against Governor Umo Eno, but rather reflected the pain and confusion of a child coping with loss.
“The child was simply seeking attention and reassurance from her father during a time of deep grief,” Umanah said.”
“The video was a moment of emotional outpouring, not an accusation against the Governor.”
The statement condemned those who have circulated the video on social media, accusing them of “maliciously weaponizing” a private family tragedy to tarnish the Governor’s image and undermine his administration’s achievements.
Umanah stressed that the video’s resurfacing is part of a broader political attempt to discredit Governor Eno and distract from the progress made under his ARISE Agenda.
The controversy began when Jane Eddidiong Ufot posted a tearful video pleading with her father to intervene before “this thing destroys” and warning, “I’m not a sacrifice.
“Mummy was, I’m not. I give you a few minutes, if you don’t work; I’ve posted this thing everywhere.”
The video quickly went viral, sparking widespread speculation and debate.
Governor Umo Eno personally addressed the issue during a public event in Uyo, accompanied by family members including Jane herself.
He confirmed that the video was recorded shortly after the passing of his wife in September 2024 and described its recent circulation as a political ploy by detractors seeking to exploit a painful family moment.
“We’re in political times, so you expect more of this,” the Governor said.
“My family is intact you can see everyone here.
The video in question was recorded shortly after my wife passed away last year.
So why is it resurfacing now, just as we’re marking our second anniversary and celebrating our achievements?
“It only confirms there are detractors.”
Governor Eno appealed to the public to respect his family’s privacy and allow his late wife’s soul to rest in peace.
He emphasized his commitment to serving the people of Akwa Ibom and refused to be distracted by political mischief.
“I wouldn’t wish what happened to me on anyone.
If those sharing this video wish the same for themselves, I wish them luck.
But I believe even in politics, families should be off-limits.
I assure you, my family is intact we are fine.”
The government also addressed rumors and misinformation surrounding the First Lady’s death, which was officially reported as a peaceful passing after an undisclosed illness.
Jane’s emotional claim that her mother was “sacrificed” was described by officials as a grief-driven statement influenced by external manipulation rather than fact.
Following the First Lady’s death, Governor Eno appointed his eldest daughter, Lady Helen Obareki, to assume the responsibilities of First Lady and continue her mother’s “Golden Initiatives for All” (GIFA) project, further underscoring the family’s unity and dedication to public service.
The Akwa Ibom State Government’s response highlights the challenges of navigating personal tragedy in the public eye, especially amid political rivalries.
It calls on the public and media to exercise sensitivity and caution when dealing with emotionally charged content and to resist attempts by political opponents to exploit family matters for gain.
As the state continues to advance under Governor Eno’s leadership, officials reaffirm their focus on development and governance, urging all stakeholders to prioritize unity and progress over divisive tactics.
Wahalaupdate will continue to monitor the situation and provide updates as the story develops.
