Joe Igbokwe, an APC chieftain, publicly appealed to Lagos Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu to address the ongoing demolition of Igbo-owned properties in the state.

These demolitions, often justified by state officials for urban planning or building violations, have sparked protests and debates, with the Lagos Assembly backing the exercise despite objections.

Igbokwe’s intervention aligns with his history of commenting on Igbo-Lagos tensions, previously questioning similar actions at Lagos Trade Fair.

“Igbokwe Plea Ignites Debate on Igbo Business Losses”

The issue gained traction on January 22, 2026, amid broader concerns over economic impacts on non-indigenous businesses.

Wahalaupdate reports that Igbokwe posted on Facebook he received numerous calls from Igbos about state government officials demolishing their houses.

Lamenting the ongoing demolitions, APC chieftain Joe emphasised that Igbos represent a strong force in Lagos’s growth.

He highlighted their substantial investments that have significantly contributed to the state’s economic and urban development.

He urged Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu to intervene swiftly, noting the pressure from affected residents and the need to preserve harmonious relationships.

These properties, often targeted for violations, underscore Igbos’ vital role in Lagos’s prosperity through massive commercial stakes.

“Igbokwe Appeals to Sanwo-Olu for Amicable Demolition Solution”

The APC chieftain further appealed to Sanwo-Olu to look into the matter and find an amicable solution.

He wrote, “This is my advice to Igbo Community in Lagos. If you want to buy land in Lagos please do some due diligence.

Hire a lawyer to search Ministry of Lands records in Alausa. Confirm if the land is for sale or reserved for other purposes.

If possible go and buy old houses, pull it down and rebuild. I am speaking from experience.

Hundreds of Igbo in Lagos have called me hours on end to complain of losing their houses. I am besieged everyday on this matter.

“Igbokwe, Ndigbo APC Leader, Appeals to Sanwo-Olu for Solution”

As the leader of Ndigbo in APC Lagos I am appealing to my leader, my principal HE Governor Sanwolu to look into the matter and find an amicable solution to the problem.

“Igbo live in Lagos in their numbers. They are a strong force in the massive growth of Lagos.

Having been in Lagos for over 40 years I know the humongous investment of Igbo in Lagos.

These are all there for all eyes to see. It is not hidden. We are all Nigerians irrespective of your tribe.

Phone calls I receive everyday across Lagos is choking me to the marrows.

I hope Governor Sanwo Olu will look into this matter and find a way to put this matter to rest.

“Thefore, I am besieged, tire dand  exhausted, choked up and diminished, weak and under pressure everyday.

Now I want a solution to this serious matter with bridges of understanding and bridges of mutual relationship.

I want peaceful peace in Lagos. I want a new deal with Igbo and the Yorubas in Lagos.”
