The Peoples Redemption Party (PRP) Edo State chapter of has embarked on an indefinite postponement of its state congress, following a disagreement among members over the party’s voters’ register.

The development, according to the information gathered, that it has fostered divisions within the party, splitting it into two factions.

Party Congress Postponed Over Direct vs. Indirect Modalities Clash

The postponement is as a result of the disagreements on the modalities for the exercise, with some members of the party.

Pushing for a direct congress while others insisted on an indirect process.

The Saturday 10 A.M. time scheduled was delayed until about 2 A.M. as members of the party failed to reach a consensus on how the exercise should be conducted.

wahalaupdate understands that the disagreement over the party’s voters’ register further fueled the crisis.

    Yakubu Paul Postpones Party Congress

The Chairman of the Electoral Committee, Yakubu Paul, announced the postponement after consultations with the party’s National Secretariat.

Stating the decision as a necessity for proper preparation.

“According to him, I have just spoken with the National Secretariat and received approval to postpone this congress to enable us to prepare for the reschedule.

We were supposed to have held our ward and local government congresses.

After which the chairmen and secretaries that emerged would serve as delegates to vote at the state congress, but this was not done,” he said.

Factions Clash Over Eligibility Of Voters

Tensions escalated as some loyal members to the state incumbent chairman, Greg Igbinomwanya, insisted that only 344 individuals that were captured.

He ordered that only the 344 captured should be allowed to register to vote.

But, those aligned with Yakubu Paul rejected the position, alleging it is a manipulation of the voters’ register.

The spokesperson for the aggrieved party members, Adams Erunmwunse, accused the party leadership of losing credibility.

Stating that is the reason he is attempting to influence the process just to retain control.

“Greg never wanted this congress to hold because his tenure ended in 2024.

Hence he came up with a retrogressive register of just 344 members,” he added.

When contacted Igbinomwanya, he dismissed the claims by insisting that the register being used by the party was authentic.

He alleged that some individuals are been sponsored to obtain membership cards from the party.

Some congress solely to participate in the exercise in the morning of it but the plan did not materialise.
