Alwan Hassan, an All Progressives Congress  (APC) chieftain, declared that the party suffered a massive blow from former Kano governor Rabiu Kwankwaso’s defection to the African Democratic Congress (ADC).

He emphasized this loss weakens APC’s northern stronghold, urging leaders to strategize against further high-profile exits amid rising political realignments.

Hassan: APC Loss on Arise TV Tuesday

Hassan stated this on Tuesday during a live appearance in an interview on Arise Television’s ‘Prime Time.’

APC chieftain Alwan Hassan says the party faces huge losses after ex-Kano governor Rabiu Kwankwaso defected to the African Democratic Congress (ADC).

This move signals trouble for APC’s grip on northern votes.

As Hassan warns of more defections shaking the party’s foundation ahead of elections.

Hassan stated this on Tuesday during a live appearance in an interview on Arise Television’s ‘Prime Time.’

“Kwankwaso had been in the market since 2023, and we have lost him to the ADC,” Hassan said.

Jamo: Kwankwaso Defection Proves NNPP’s Demise

Meanwhile, APC chieftain Mohammed Jamo claims Rabiu Kwankwaso’s defection from NNPP proves the party lacks viability as a serious political platform.

He argues this exit exposes NNPP’s weaknesses, boosting APC’s prospects while signaling broader realignments in Nigeria’s competitive opposition landscape.

Jamo stated this on Monday during an appearance on Channels Television.

He asserted Kwankwaso’s defection to ADC validates Governor Abba Yusuf’s NNPP exit.

“There are always two sides to every coin.

If we are to look at it from the perspective from which we and many people in Kano see what has happened today, it is a vindication of our position,” Jamo said.

He recalled that when Governor Yusuf and his allies exited the NNPP months earlier.

Members of the Kwankwasiyya Movement heavily criticized the move.

Yusuf Ditched NNPP: Untenable for Kano Dividends

Months ago, Governor Abba Yusuf and allies deemed NNPP untenable for politics and delivering democracy’s dividends to Kano people.

Kwankwasiyya movement members shouted we erred, but time proves our bold shift from NNPP was the right call.

“But today, we have been vindicated that leaving the NNPP was the right decision,” he said.

Jamo: Defection Timed Perfectly for Kano Governance

Jamo added Nigerians watching recent events see the defection happened at the perfect time for Kano’s governance interests.

This move prioritizes effective leadership and state progress over party loyalty, validating the timely switch amid unfolding politics.

“That means Nigerians watching us today will see that we were on the right trajectory by leaving the NNPP at the time we did and aligning with the Federal Government,” he added.
