Afrobeat singer Seun Kuti ignited fierce debates by posting a live video on social media, targeting religious leaders directly.

In the clip, he boldly urged the Federal Government to crack down on pastors claiming supernatural miracle powers publicly.

Kuti: Pastors Deceive Followers Amid Economic Hardship

Kuti argued these acts deceive vulnerable followers, exploiting faith for personal gain amid Nigeria’s rising economic hardships.

His provocative stance sparked polarized reactions online, with supporters praising his candor and critics accusing him of attacking Christianity.

According to reports, he said there should be a law that stops people from carrying out or claiming miracles without proof.

Seun Kuti Demands Proof Or Punishment for Pastors

Seun Kuti demands punishment for pastors claiming miracles without solid proof, challenging their bold supernatural assertions head-on.

He insists anyone proclaiming such divine powers must demonstrate them publicly under strict, verifiable conditions without tricks.

Proper medical supervision should oversee tests, ensuring no sleight-of-hand or emotional manipulation fools the watching public.

Only genuine evidence under these rigorous standards would exempt claimants from facing legal consequences, Kuti emphasizes firmly.

He explained that experts at Lagos University Teaching Hospital should test any pastor making such claims and properly check the miracle.

He added that it should not rely on church or online stories or claims, but on confirmations in a hospital setting.

Kuti: Repeat Miracles Before Medical Experts

The singer went further to say that the person making the claim should be able to repeat the act several times in front of medical experts.

Seun Kuti illustrated his point with a vivid example of restoring sight to challenge miracle claims effectively.

He stressed that true healing must involve patients doctors previously certified as irreversibly blind beforehand.

Post-miracle, independent medical exams should confirm restored vision beyond doubt, eliminating any skepticism or fraud accusations.

Vague, unprovable cases fail his test; only doctor-verified before-and-after evidence proves legitimacy, he demands rigorously.

He also said that authorities should hold responsible anyone who fails to show such proof after making the claim.

Kuti Pushes Strict Punishment for False Miracles

In his view, strict punishment should be introduced to stop what he believes are false claims and to protect the public from being misled.

He said:  “A law should be made to ensure that no one is allowed to perform miracles, and anyone caught claiming to perform a miracle should be sent to jail.

The only exception would be if the miracle can be proven at Lagos University Teaching Hospital (LUTH).”

“They should perform the miracle for ten people at LUTH.

I do not want to hear about fake miracles, because your God can do all things.

I am not talking about miracles that claim to heal someone who has been blind their entire life.

In this case I’m talking about someone with no eyeballs at all and if the miracle is real, the person should gain full vision.

If you cannot perform the miracle, you should be held accountable.”

“If a person is unable to perform the miracle, they should be sentenced to fifty years in prison.”
